Meet Jennifer Jackson

Jennifer Jackson, studio owner, has taught piano since 1995 and loves helping students grow through fun, engaging, and expert instruction.

Welcome to My Musical Journey

Hi, I'm Jennifer Jackson, and I truly believe I have the best job in the world. For 30 years now, I've had the incredible privilege of teaching piano to students of all ages and abilities. Music has always been an essential part of my life, and sharing that passion with others is both a joy and an honor. As Utah’s highest-rated piano teacher, I’ve made it my mission to help every student I work with fall in love with music and grow into confident, expressive musicians.

How It All Began

A Childhood Spark

My journey with music began when I was just eight years old. I still remember the excitement of sitting at the piano for the first time and feeling a connection to the keys that was almost magical. From that moment on, the piano became more than just an instrument, it became a lifelong companion, a creative outlet, and a source of endless joy.

As a child, I looked forward to my lessons each week, and I quickly realized that music was something I not only enjoyed but deeply connected with. It was during those early years that I began dreaming of a future where I could dedicate my life to music.

Formal Education and Professional Growth

That dream led me to the University of Utah, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance in 2000. My time at the university helped refine my technique, deepen my understanding of music theory, and connect me with inspiring mentors and fellow musicians who helped shape the teacher I am today.

While in college, I began teaching piano in 1995, and from the very first lesson, I knew I had found my calling. There’s something incredibly special about helping someone else discover the beauty and power of music, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

A Passion for Piano—and Beyond

Teaching That Comes from the Heart

For me, teaching is much more than going through exercises or preparing for recitals. I see each lesson as an opportunity to inspire, connect, and help my students express themselves through music. Every student is unique, and I take great care in tailoring lessons to fit their individual needs, goals, and learning styles.

I truly love watching my students grow, not just in skill but in confidence, creativity, and passion. Whether it’s a child playing their first notes, a teen preparing for a competition, or an adult revisiting the piano after years away, I strive to make each lesson meaningful and memorable.

Falling in Love with the Organ

Although piano is my first love, I’ve also developed a deep appreciation for the organ. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to perform on many beautiful and historic organs across the Salt Lake City area. There’s something incredibly powerful about the sound and presence of the organ, and exploring that instrument has enriched my musical journey in ways I never expected.

The organ has also helped me bring a broader perspective to my piano instruction. Understanding different keyboard instruments and performance settings has strengthened my approach to teaching and opened up even more creative avenues for my students.

Why I Teach

More Than Just Notes

Music education is about so much more than learning how to play an instrument. It’s about building discipline, fostering creativity, and giving students a way to express themselves in a world that’s often chaotic and fast-paced. I want my students to leave each lesson feeling empowered and inspired.

I’ve seen firsthand how music can transform lives. I’ve watched shy students become confident performers, seen young children develop a deep love for classical pieces, and helped adult learners rediscover the joy they once had as kids. These experiences are why I teach, and they’re what keep me motivated every single day.

Creating a Positive and Supportive Environment

One of my top priorities as a teacher is to create a welcoming and encouraging space where students feel safe to explore and grow. Learning music should be a joyful experience, and I work hard to ensure that my studio is a place of positivity, patience, and celebration.

I believe in meeting students where they are and helping them build toward where they want to be. Progress might look different for everyone, but every step forward is something to be proud of.

My Studio and Teaching Philosophy

A Personalized Approach

No two students are the same, which is why I never take a one-size-fits-all approach. I take time to get to know each student—their interests, their goals, their challenges—and I build my lessons around those insights. Whether you're preparing for formal recitals and competitions or simply playing for personal enjoyment, I’ll help you get there with a customized plan that keeps things fun and engaging.

Emphasizing Joy and Mastery

While technique and theory are essential, I also emphasize the emotional and expressive side of playing. I want my students to feel something when they play and to help their listeners feel something too. Music has the power to move, heal, and inspire, and I believe that should always be at the heart of the learning process.

Looking Ahead

Continuing to Grow Together

Even after all these years, I’m still learning and growing as a musician and teacher. I regularly attend workshops, study new teaching methods, and look for ways to improve my approach. I believe that great teachers never stop being students themselves.

My goal is to continue sharing my passion for music with as many people as I can. Whether you're a beginner just starting out or a more advanced player looking to refine your skills, I would be honored to be part of your musical journey.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. I can’t wait to meet you and help you discover all the joy that music has to offer!
