The highest rated piano studio in Utah! Learn piano from an expert in West Bountiful.
I teach private piano lessons for adults 18 and over at my studio in West Bountiful, Utah. Lessons run 30 to 60 minutes, once a week, and are built around what you want to play. Complete beginners and returning players are both welcome. There is no recital requirement and no audition.
Adults call me with the same sentence, worded slightly differently every time: I always meant to learn, and I think I have left it too late.
You have not. I have taught adults who started at 40, at 55, and at 70. What changes with age is not the ability to learn, it is the reason for learning, which means adult lessons should not look like a child's lessons with the recital removed.
No, and the assumption behind the question is usually backwards.
Children learn certain physical things faster. Adults learn almost everything else faster, because you already reason abstractly. Key signatures, chord function, form and rhythmic notation are concepts, and an adult absorbs a concept in one explanation where a child needs it demonstrated across a term.
What adults have less of is time. So the adult track is designed around the constraint that actually exists: a shorter, more consistent practice habit, and material you genuinely want to play, because that is what makes you sit down at the instrument on a Wednesday when you are tired.
Thirty to sixty minutes, weekly, and the length is your choice.
You can change between them. Several of my adult students move to the hour once they are into harder repertoire.
My studio hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Saturday 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM block and Saturday mornings are the two windows most working adults never think to ask about, and they are the easiest slots to get. Weekday evenings from 4:00 PM onward are the hardest, because that is when the school-age students are here.
No. Performing is available and it is optional.
If you want it, adult students play in the annual Ensemble Recital, alongside other musicians rather than alone, and some join the Silent Film Celebration, where students accompany a silent film live for a theatre audience. Several of my adult students perform with their own children.
If you do not want it, nothing happens. Plenty of my adult students have never played for anyone but me, and that is a completely valid way to do this.
Lessons are at my studio, 958 West 1950 North, West Bountiful, UT 84087. I do not travel to students' homes.
Adults come to me from Bountiful, Woods Cross, North Salt Lake, Centerville and Farmington. From most of south Davis County it is a ten to fifteen minute drive.
Call 801-718-3682, or use the contact form. Tell me whether you have played before and roughly what you would like to be able to play. That is genuinely all I need to suggest a lesson length and find you a time.
Yes. Adult beginners are a normal part of my studio. We start from the beginning using music you actually want to play, and we cover theory from the first lesson rather than saving it for later.
No. I have taught adults who started in their forties, fifties and seventies. Adults learn theory and structure faster than children do, because you already think in concepts.
No. Performing is entirely optional for adult students. Those who want it play in the annual Ensemble Recital or the Silent Film Celebration. Those who do not are never asked.
Thirty or sixty minutes, weekly, and it is your choice. Thirty works for a weekly check-in; sixty gives room to work on longer pieces in the studio.
Twenty to thirty minutes, four or five times a week, is enough to make steady progress. Consistency matters far more than session length.
Neither. All lessons are in person at my studio in West Bountiful.
